CHAMPS consortium is funded by the Academy of Finland's academy programme Climate Change and Health (CLIHE)

Leaders

The CHAMPS consortium will produce new knowledge on the potential risks of climate change for physical and mental health in Finland and identify adaptation measures that might be required to avoid or ameliorate adverse impacts. Research will focus on three distinct yet related topics: 1) mental health impacts of changes in seasonal variation of solar radiation and other weather variables, 2) the influence of social vulnerability and exposure on health impacts of thermal stress, and 3) their implications for occupational health and work productivity, social inequalities and costs. The consortium works closely with stakeholders and has strong interdisciplinary expertise in mental health and psychiatry, occupational health, social epidemiology, social and environmental policy, meteorology, geography, and economics. The CHAMPS consortium is led by the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare, with partners from University of Eastern Finland, University of Helsinki, Finnish Meteorological Institute and Finnish Environment Insitute.
