Patient safety incidents and near misses are a reality in patient care. “With people, there’s always the possibility of human error. But we can learn from our mistakes”, says Professor of Nursing Science Marja Härkänen.

Professor of Education Sonja Kosunen has received Starting Grant funding from the European Research Council (ERC) for theoretical development of research on teacher segregation.

The development of education and impact of research were among the themes addressed at the Opening Ceremony of the Academic Year 2025–2026 of the University of Eastern Finland.

"AI is a bigger change than the internet," Karttunen says. He will start as Principal Investigator at the ELLIS Institute Finland and as Professor and PS Fellow at the University of Eastern Finland in September 2025.
