New scholarship encourages studies in the Finnish language

Both Finnish and international applicants with a secondary education qualification can apply for admission to the international Bachelor’s degree programmes. Both Finnish and international applicants with a relevant Bachelor’s degree can apply for admission to the Master’s degree programmes.

Studying in the international degree programmes is free of charge for Finnish citizens and all EU/EEA and Swiss citizens. Citizens of other countries are required to pay a tuition fee of 10,000 euros per academic year.

A limited number of scholarships are available for selected students who are liable to pay tuition fees.

“The University of Eastern Finland is the first Finnish university to offer a scholarship based on learning the Finnish language in its international Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes. The purpose of the scholarship is to encourage international students to learn Finnish, improve their employment opportunities, and facilitate their integration into Finnish society,”  Vice Rector Laura Hirsto notes.

Starting from 1 January 2025, applicants from outside the EU, EEA or Switzerland are required to pay an application fee in order to apply to higher education studies. More information about the application fee can be found on the Studyinfo website maintained by the Finnish National Agency for Education.
