Professor Timo Tokola was selected as the Chair of the new University Collegium of the University of Eastern Finland.
The University Collegium is the highest, broad-based decision-making body of a public university. It represents the academic community and selects the members of the Board, confirms the financial statements and discusses general policies.
There are a total of 24 members in the University Collegium of the University of Eastern Finland. Eight of the members represent the university’s professors, eight represent the university’s teaching, research and other staff, and eight represent the university’s students. The term of office of the University Collegium is from 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2029. The term of office of the student members is two years.
The University Collegium of the University of Eastern Finland held an organising meeting on 12 February 2026 and selected Professor of Forest Information Systems Timo Tokola as the Chair, University Lecturer in Social and Public Policy Antero Puhakka as the Vice Chair and student of Economics and Business Administration Joonatan Packalen as the Second Vice Chair. The new University Collegium of the University of Eastern Finland has discussed its operating methods, and the chairs have started their work. The aim is to strengthen the Collegium’s role as a discussion and supervisory body of the academic community and to enhance the dialogue with the university’s leadership and the Board.
The Deans, Heads of Units and Rectors will continue to be invited to meetings as necessary. In future, the discussion themes defined by the University Collegium will be sent to the invited participants in advance so that the meetings can focus on key strategic issues. The Collegium will continue to publish a short bulletin of its meetings and will work on practices to enhance visibility.
