We are looking forward to starting the new season of our Musculoskeletal Health and Technology (MSKHealthTech) Research Community Seminar Series. The first seminar will take place on Thursday, September 3, 2026 from 15:00-16:00 in Snellmania building, auditorium SN201 and online.
We are delighted to welcome a special guest speaker and opponent, Dr. Matthew Koff from Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) and Weill Cornell Medicine in New York, USA.
Title: Quantitative MRI in Orthopaedics: Imaging Endpoints Across Joint Structures and Pathologies
BIO
Dr. Matthew F. Koff is Co-Director of the MRI Laboratory and an Associate Scientist at Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) in New York, and Associate Professor of Biomedical Imaging in Orthopaedic Surgery at Weill Cornell Medicine. He earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from The George Washington University and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Biomedical Engineering from Columbia University, followed by postdoctoral training in musculoskeletal MRI at the Mayo Clinic.
Trained as both an engineer and imaging scientist, Dr. Koff's research focuses on applying quantitative MRI to better understand musculoskeletal disease and evaluate orthopaedic treatments. His work spans cartilage, meniscus, tendon, and bone imaging, including quantitative MRI biomarkers such as T1ρ, T2, and T2*, advanced imaging of total hip and knee arthroplasty, and the use of radiomics to characterize joint tissues and pathology. Working closely with clinicians, engineers, and basic scientists, he helps translate imaging methods into tools that support orthopaedic research and patient care. Dr. Koff previously served as Chair of the Musculoskeletal Study Group of the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM) and Chair of the Meniscus Section of the Orthopaedic Research Society (ORS).
