The University of Eastern Finland celebrates the 20th anniversary of the Master's Degree Programme in Toxicology on 4 May. The topics of the anniversary seminar include recent research in the prevention and treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma as well as alumni career stories.
The seminar will be held on Thursday, 4th of May 2023 starting at 13:00 in the Mediteknia auditorium, University of Eastern Finland, Yliopistonranta 1 B, Kuopio. The seminar is open to all interested. Afterwards, there will be an invitation-only dinner.
There is a widespread need for toxicologists capable of making chemical risk assessment. Professional supplement education of toxicology was transformed to the international Master's Degree Programme in 2002. It is still the only degree programme in Toxicology in Finland and one of few in Europe. The programme covers the basic knowledge of toxicology from exposure and interactions and action mechanisms of chemicals in the body to assessing toxicological hazards and risks of chemicals. The programme puts emphasis on understanding principal mechanisms of toxicity. During the 20 years, the programme has educated hundreds of experts to serve to guarantee safe use of chemicals in society.
In the seminar, distinguished speakers will shed light on current toxicology topics and four former graduates of the programme will talk about their careers. The Plenary lecture, entitled “Hepatocellular Carcinoma: Our road map for prevention and treatment” will be given by Professor Hani El-Nezami.
