Why did you decided to apply to UEF?
The idea to apply to UEF as an exchange student came to me while I was writing the literature review of my thesis. I came across some research conducted by Dr Sanna Talvia on school meals, which is closely related to the theme I'm working on my thesis. Furthermore, I work as a nutritionist at a Brazilian school, which is another reason for my interest in applying to UEF. Finland's internationally recognized model education system aligns with my profession, and I believe that gaining experience in such an environment would be extremely valuable for me.
What has been the highlight of your studies so far?
During my studies at UEF, I had the opportunity to learn more about Finnish education and Finnish school meals. I had the chance to visit schools in Joensuu and Salo, participate in the meeting of the school meals coalition in Helsinki, teach home economics students about Brazilian dietary practices, and meet researchers from Kuopio. All these activities were truly interesting and provided me with a wealth of knowledge. The entire experience in Finland has made a huge difference in both my personal and professional life.

In your opinion, what is the best thing about Finland and Joensuu?
I would say the best things about Finland are the people and the sense of safety. Every person I met there was kind and helpful. Coming from a distant country, I felt warmly welcomed in Joensuu. The city isn't large, and you can easily get around everywhere by bike, which makes things convenient.
What would you say to a prospective student, who is thinking about applying to UEF?
I would highly encourage you to consider applying to UEF! The University of Eastern Finland offers a great academic environment with a diverse range of programs and research opportunities. You'll have the chance to experience a supportive learning environment and engage with a international community. Moreover, Finland itself offers a unique cultural experience and a safe, inclusive society.
What are your plans after graduation?
As I mentioned before, I hold a public position as a nutritionist in a school in Brazil. Therefore, once I defend my thesis, I will return to work. However, my plan is to apply the valuable experience I gained in Finland to enhance my work.
