The University of Eastern Finland held a doctoral conferment ceremony on the Kuopio Campus on 9– 11 June 2022. A commemorative book of the doctoral conferment ceremony is now available online, featuring all the speeches held during the events, as well as plenty of photographs from the festivities. The book presents all 122 Doctors and 13 Honorary Doctors upon whom a doctorate was conferred. In addition, summaries of the public lectures held during the festivities, and interviews with the Prima and Ultimus Doctors, can be found in the book.
The festive atmosphere can now be revisited via a video from the ceremonial conferment of degrees held at Kuopio Music Centre, where Kuopio Symphony Orchestra and Male Choir Kuopio-Kvartetti, conducted by Rauno Tikkanen, entertained the audience with music.
Doctors from the three faculties operating on the Kuopio Campus, i.e., the Faculty of Science and Forestry, the Faculty of Health Sciences, and the Faculty of Social Sciences and Business Studies, participated in the conferment ceremony. The three-day festivities included, e.g., the traditional hat-fitting ceremony, the ceremonial conferment of degrees, the doctoral procession, the doctoral conferment service, the banquet and the ball, as well as a cruise on Lake Kallavesi followed by lunch at Alahovi winery.
The University of Eastern Finland holds a doctoral conferment ceremony every five years in two stages: first on the Joensuu Campus and on the Kuopio Campus the following year. The university’s second doctoral conferment ceremony took place in Joensuu in 2019, but in Kuopio only this year, as the event had to be postponed due to the pandemic. The third doctoral conferment ceremony will be held in Joensuu on 6–8 June 2024, and in Kuopio on 5–7 June 2025. Registration will be opened at the end of the year preceding the event, and it will be advertised on the university’s communication channels.
