UEF’s Institute of Dentistry now offers its students an advanced virtual learning environment through Simodont Dental Trainer. The device is the first of its kind in Finland.
Simodont provides a virtual learning and training environment for a range of dental procedures, combining realistic 3D visual presentation with a life-like touch and feel. It is intended for expanding and optimizing students’ preparatory skills and to facilitate their transition from pre-clinic to clinic. Simulating clinical problems enables students to practice more extensively and also allows the professors to track their progress and to plan student exercises efficiently.
The simulations are complemented with reading material on the computer, which makes it possible to more easily combine technique and theory learning in dental education. The learning environment also offers possibilities for supplementary and post-graduate education and for further education of dentists in their profession.
More than 80 dental schools around the world already use the Simodont Dental Trainer, which enables the sharing of user and teaching experiences between institutions.
