Finnish Foundations' Post Doc Pool awarded 27 grants – two UEF postdocs secured funding

The grants of the Finnish Foundations' Post Doc Pool were announced on 18 April 2023, with the foundations awarding some 1.275 million euros to 27 post-doctoral scholars.

Altogether 106 post-doctoral scholars from across Finland took part in the spring application round. At the University of Eastern Finland, a grant of 60,000 euros was awarded to Project Researcher Nicholas Downes of the A.I. Virtanen Institute for Molecular Sciences for research into cell biology (a Finnish Cultural Foundation extension grant), while Postdoctoral Researcher Khai Pham Dinh of the Department of Chemistry secured a grant of 45,000 euros for research into materials science (a Finnish Foundation for Technology Promotion grant).

During the current three-year-period 2022-2024, there are thirteen foundations involved in the Finnish Foundations' Post Doc Pool, allocating altogether 3.25 million euros annually to the pool. The foundations are Ella and Georg Ehrnrooth Foundation, Emil Aaltonen’s Foundation, Alfred Kordelin Foundation, the Foundation for Economic
Education, Päivikki and Sakari Sohlberg Foundation, Finnish Academy of Science and Letters, Finnish Cultural Foundation, the Finnish Medical Foundation, Swedish Cultural Foundation in Finland, the Society of Swedish Literature in Finland, Finnish Foundation for Technology Promotion, Jenny and Antti Wihuri Foundation and the Ulla Tuominen’s Foundation.

The next application round will take place from 15 August until 15 September 2023, with some 1.8 million euros available for application.
