Hilkka Soininen, Johanna Kuusisto and Miia Kivipelto ranked in the top 1,000 female scientists in the world

In a recent ranking published by Research.com, Professor Emerita Hilkka Soininen, Professor Johanna Kuusisto and Professor Miia Kivipelto of the University of Eastern Finland and Kuopio University Hospital were ranked in the top 1,000 female scientists in the world, along with a total of 11 Finnish female scientists.

The ranking by Research.com is based on the number of publications and citations.

Hilkka Soininen has worked as Professor of Neurology at the University of Eastern Finland and as Chief Physician at Kuopio University Hospital. She is an internationally recognised scholar of dementia and especially Alzheimer’s disease. 

Johanna Kuusisto works as Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Eastern Finland and as Chief Physician at Kuopio University Hospital. For two decades already, Kuusisto has been studying cardiomyopathy in the Finnish population. The national FinHCM study led by Kuusisto has shed light on the genetic background, clinical picture and prognosis of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy in Finnish patients. 

Miia Kivipelto works as Professor of Neurogeriatrics at the University of Eastern Finland and at Karolinska Institutet. Kivipelto is an internationally recognised scholar of dementia, with an impressive track record in research. She has published extensively in international journals and received several awards. Kivipelto leads, among others, the FINGER study coordinated by the Finnish National Institute for Health and Welfare, which has yielded significant results in the prevention of dementia.
