Professor, PhD (Pharm) Markus Forsberg has been appointed Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of Eastern Finland for the period 1 January – 31 December 2025. The UEF Board made the appointment at its meeting of 12 September.
Markus Forsberg holds a doctoral degree in pharmacy and a title of docent in pharmacology. He has worked as Professor of Pharmacology at the University of Eastern Finland since 2015 and as part-time Research Professor at VTT since 2019. Forsberg has worked as Vice Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences since 2022. In addition, he was Head of the Drug Research and Development Centre at UEF in 2006–2023.
Marja Laasonen appointed as Vice Dean of the Philosophical Faculty
Professor, PhD (Psychology) Marja Laasonen was elected Vice Dean of the Philosophical Faculty for the period 1 January to 31 December 2025. Marja Laasonen is a psychologist, specialist psychologist in neuropsychology and teacher. Since 2021, she has been Professor of Logopedics and the head of the academic subject at the University of Eastern Finland.
The current four-year term of office of Deans and Vice Deans of all faculties of the University extends until the end of 2025. The current Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences Jussi Pihlajamäki has been appointed Vice Rector for Research and the current Vice Dean of the Philosophical Faculty Laura Hirsto has been appointed Vice Rector for Education as from 1 January 2025, for which reason their posts will be filled for the remainder of the current term of office.
