According to Annukka Lahti, previous studies have shown that the pressures felt by LGBTIQ+ people in their breakups are aggravated by the fact that the partners feel that they have failed in the relationship they had fought for.

LGBTIQ+ people still do not have the same structural, institutional or social support for their relationships as heterosexual couples.
