Professor Harri Kalimo is a member in the consortium led by the Natural Resources Institute Finland, with the University of Oulu and VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland also as partners.
The Strategic Research Council, SRC, established within the Research Council of Finland has granted a total of 29 million euros for research supporting economic growth and the future of work. The ten consortia of projects to be funded focus on long-term research to find solutions to key societal challenges. The University of Eastern Finland’s share of the funding amounts to 2.1 percent.
The SRC prorgramme Economy and Welfare in an Era of Strategic Competition, WELEC, focuses on how and by what means the economy can develop favourably and lay the foundations for prosperity in changing circumstances. The University of Eastern Finland is a partner in the Co-Creating Sustainable and Competitive Pathways in Industrial Carbon Management for Finnish Society, CO2CREATION, which promotes a just transition and delivers practical solutions to meet climate targets, support regional vitality, and develop new business models based on industrial carbon management. The project takes a systemic approach to industrial transformation, bridging climate, energy, and regional policy goals. The goal is to support Finland's transition to a future of industrial carbon management by developing solutions for carbon capture, utilisation and storage that are technically feasible, economically competitive and socially just.
