Last year, SeeTrue Technologies Ltd spun off from the UEF School of Computing as a result of a project funded by Business Finland’s New Business from Research Ideas programme.
SeeTrue Technologies seeks to commercialise the university’s high-level technology expertise with the help of a business model and productisation skills created in the project.
“Thanks to the small size and robustness of our technology, it is now possible to use eye tracking in dark places and under changing conditions, which is something that previous technology did not allow for,” says Associate Professor Roman Bednarik, one of the company’s founders.
“Our solution is a unique combination of algorithms and sensors, making it possible to enter new and increasingly diverse domains.”
The data obtained from the eye trackers can be used to monitor user workloads, to perform analytics, and to control interactive devices and screens. In the latest virtual reality systems, the company’s eye-tracking technology can help to improve display precision, thus supporting the user experience. The technology also has great application potential in health care technology and consumer electronics.
“We have tested our solution in a surgical environment. This speaks volumes in terms of how well eye tracking works in challenging conditions, and it is thus well-suited for application for different purposes of use,” Bednarik says.
“Late last year, we concluded an agreement on an angel investment. This makes it possible to further develop our technology and to introduce it to the markets. Our angel investors are experienced technology entrepreneurs from the field of digital solutions, and they have already successfully aided the growth of several companies. The university’s Entrepreneurship Services have also offered considerable support in the commercialisation of our product.”
