The University of Eastern Finland is holding a Doctoral Conferment Ceremony in Kuopio on 9–11 June 2022. The event will confer degrees on 126 doctors who graduated from the university and 13 honorary doctors.
The ceremony, which was originally planned for summer 2020, was delayed due to the pandemic, and those who registered to attend the event shall be entitled to attend this year’s ceremony. Registration closed at the end of January.
The doctors to be conferred in Kuopio in June have studied in the faculties of Science and Forestry, Health Sciences or Social Sciences and Business Studies. “The Faculty of Health Sciences accounts for the largest number of doctors, but a broad group of disciplines are represented, ranging from aerosol physics to environmental sciences. All the doctors participating in the ceremony have defended their dissertations in the 2000s. However, the age range is significant, with the oldest having been born in 1955 and the youngest in 1992,” says Conferment Ceremony Coordinator Kirsi Bykachev.
The venue for the Doctoral Conferment Ceremony will be Kuopio Music Centre. Including guests and staff, the ceremony will include several hundred people. According to the Chair of the Conferment Organising Committee, Professor Katri Vehviläinen-Julkunen, the ceremony will be an impressive academic occasion. “The festive atmosphere will be raised by the fact that many have been waiting for this event for a long time.”
A number of people who were not set to attend the delayed event have also enquired about the conferment ceremony. Those who were not registered to attend to the delayed event are welcome to register for the following conferment ceremonies, which will be held in Joensuu on 6–8 June 2024 and Kuopio on 5–7 June 2025. Registration for these events opens at the end of the preceding year.
