The University of Eastern Finland’s new Board has been elected – the term of office begins in 2026

The members of the University of Eastern Finland’s Board have been elected for the term of office starting at the beginning of 2026. At its meeting of 7 November, the University Collegium confirmed the elected staff representatives and the student members appointed to the Board by the Student Union of the University of Eastern Finland (ISYY). External members were appointed to the Board earlier, on 19 May.

Professor Ursula Schwab was elected to the Board for a second term and Professor Jopi Nyman as a new member. The members representing other teaching and research staff and other staff in the Board are Information Specialist Tomi Rosti and Senior Researcher Saara Koikkalainen, who will start as a new member. Social Sciences graduate Leevi Haavisto and Bachelor of Arts Lassi Oikkonen will represent the students.

The four external members appointed to the Board by the University Collegium are Professor of Cyber Security Kirsi Helkala, Director of the Wellbeing Services County of North Savo Marko Korhonen, Managing Director of Genelec Siamäk Naghian and Senior Editor-in-Chief at Helsingin Sanomat Erja Yläjärvi.

The Board has a total of ten members. The new Board will take office on 1 January 2026. The term of office of the external members and students is two years, and the term of office of the staff representatives is four years. The Board decides on the central goals and strategy of the university.
