UEF launches joint Master's degree programme in environmental law with the Universities of Uppsala and Tromsø

As the need for experts in environmental law is increasing, the University of Eastern Finland Law School and Centre of Climate Change, Energy and Environmental Law (CCEEL), together with the Law Faculties of the Uppsala and Tromsø Universities, have launched a new Joint Master's Degree Programme in Environmental Law (NOMPEL). The two-year programme will focus on two substantive areas: natural resources management, and climate change and energy law.

The students will physically study in three Nordic countries: first at Uppsala University in Sweden, then at the University of Eastern Finland in Joensuu, and finally at UIT the Arctic University of Norway in Tromsø. The programme provides financial support for the students, enabling them to travel between the three universities.

The programme gives the students basic theoretical and methodological knowledge in environmental law; it also provides the students with special legal knowledge within the management of natural resources and the protection of biodiversity, as well as in climate change and energy transition. It leads to a joint degree from the three participating universities.

The NOMPEL programme is funded through the Nordic Council of Ministers’ funding instrument for joint Nordic programmes.

The first yearly application period will end on 15th of January 2019 and the first students are enrolling in autumn 2019, with a yearly intake of 25 students.
