“These programmes are the first Bachelor’s degree programmes taught in English at the University of Eastern Finland. They play a key role in diversifying our international education offering. In the upcoming years, we will be expanding our offering with additional Bachelor’s degree programmes taught in English. There seems to be a clear demand for them at the moment,” Academic Rector Tapio Määttä says.
The programmes are the first Bachelor’s degree programmes taught in English at the University of Eastern Finland. The Bachelor’s Degree Programme in Social Sciences is aimed at anyone interested in societal issues and wishing to complete their degree in English. The programme consists of studies introducing students to the foundations of social sciences, as well as of various thematic courses deepening students’ understanding of, e.g., economic research in social sciences, sociology of education, and sustainable development. Students’ choice of their minor subjects also shapes the orientation of the degree. It is possible to complete the Bachelor of Social Sciences degree online, including minor subjects; however, more alternatives are available on campus.
The Bachelor’s Degree Programme in Lifelong Learning and Sustainable Development examines education from the perspective of global education, lifelong learning and sustainable development. Some of the courses in the programme will be based on project-based learning, involving collaboration with working life organisations. The programme will be offered as flexible blended teaching on the Joensuu Campus. Both new Bachelor’s programmes will begin in autumn 2022.
Citizens of Finland and the EU/EEA countries, as well as Switzerland, are not required to pay for tuition. Citizens of other countries are charged an annual tuition fee of 10,000 euros. Students who are required to pay for tuition will be awarded a partial, 50% tuition waiver.
