The course acquaints the student with problems of religion and law in Europe, such as European values and religions, religiously motivated legal regulations (e.g. abortion law in Poland), religious freedom (e.g. bans for the Yehovah’s Witnesses in Russia), bans related to Islam (e.g. bans of burka in France, Belgium, etc.; bans for minarets in Switzerland). The relationship of law and religion in a global world, especially in a diverse Europe, is a part of European identity. The aim is to understand how state church relations are regulated in Europe and in given European countries. This is also to understand the reasons of such regulations or policies.

Online lecture and exercise course. To pass the course, the student must: (i) actively participate in the lectures by discussing texts read in advance (40 % of the final grade), and (ii) present a chosen topic at the last meeting dedicated to the students’ presentations (60%).

Registration for Individual Courses
The fee for individual courses is €20 per ECTS credit. These prices are valid for the academic year 2025–2026.
Registration for courses starting in the autumn semester begins on 8 August 2025 at 9:00 AM. After this date, registration remains open until 16 June 2026.
The right to study is valid until 30 July 2026.
