At the seminar 'Stratification and social class inequalities in education: international approaches,' the significance of social background in education will be examined from an international perspective. How do social class differences construct societal stratification in higher education? What is it like to be a teacher from a working-class background? Promoting equality and equity in education requires an understanding of how educational pathways are formed. Can the equality of education be examined only through formal educational opportunities?

The seminar features two inspiring keynote lectures:
- Agnès van Zanten: Social-class inequalities in HE admissions in France: the impact of institutional and market devices.
- Meg Maquire: ‘Finding out’ and ‘fitting in’: teachers from working class backgrounds and their in-school experiences. Presentations and discussions will be held in English.
