Through its new strategy, the University of Eastern Finland builds a responsible and sustainable future. The strategy for 2021–2030 is rooted in global challenges to which solutions are sought through interdisciplinary research and education in the university’s profile areas. The strategy’s continuously evolving strategic programmes promote research-based understanding, modern and renewal-driven learning, and a participatory and inclusive university.
The university’s Board approved the new strategy in a meeting held on 11 December. Next, the strategy will find a visual form, after which it will be published online.
According to the strategy, the University of Eastern Finland’s high standard of research and education build a global future and strengthen the vitality of eastern Finland. By making research-based knowledge available to benefit all, the university fosters education and culture.
The profile areas defined in the strategy are Ageing, lifestyles and health, Cultural encounters, mobilities and borders, Diversifying learning and interaction, and Environmental change and sustainable use of natural resources.
The strategy is implemented through the continuously evolving strategic programmes. The programmes promote world-class interdisciplinary research, open science, science communication and the impact of research. Student-centred and networked learning environments, continuous learning and internationality in education also stand at the core of the programmes. Measures drawing upon community spirit, competence renewal and open interaction are used to make investments in the well-being of the academic community, and in smooth services.
The university’s staff, students and stakeholders have participated in the formulation of the strategy in many ways. The academic community will have an opportunity to comment on the objectives of the strategic programmes in early 2020.
