Research
Research-based understanding: High-quality research and researcher training in nursing science
Research in nursing science is characterized by preventive nursing science, safety and effectiveness, which form the Preventive, Safe and Effective Nursing by Science (PreSENCe – UEF) research theme. The strategic focus areas are multiculturalism and digitalization.
We conduct research in nursing science in multidisciplinary, national and international research groups and networks. Research in nursing science aims for high quality, social impact, interdisciplinary and international cooperation, and renewal in research. We promote the health and well-being of communities and patients and the development and leadership of health service structures through high-quality, impactful research. We are developing our research program, acquisition of research funding, publication operations and training for new generations of researchers systematically over the long term. Researchers in nursing science participate in the Effectiveness of Social and Health Services research community at University of Eastern Finland, which studies the impact, quality and safety of social and health services, in addition to analyzing the effectiveness of promoting well-being and health.
Doctoral training in nursing science is provided as part of the multidisciplinary doctoral program in health sciences and in close cooperation with the Finnish Doctoral Education Network in Nursing Science (University of Eastern Finland, University of Oulu, University of Tampere, University of Turku and Åbo Akademi University) and the international European PhD in Nursing Science training program.
