Sisältö
The course explores the background and the theory of International and Transnational Criminal Law. It focuses on the study of various international and transnational crimes and the challenges related to supranational criminal law.

The student will
After completing the course, the student is able to:
- identify the field of International and Transnational Criminal Law as a complex legal system
- recognize what are international and transnational crimes, their differences, and the
challenges they pose
- approach complex international and transnational legal cases identifying common issues of
concurring jurisdictions
- examine critically the opportunities and challenges of international and transnational criminal
law
Study methods: The course has two alternative modes of study:
Mode of Study 1: The course is organized as seminar, consisting of mandatory seminar meetings. During the seminar, the student will write a seminar paper on a topic given by the lecturer. Moreover, students will give a presentation on their seminar paper and examine other students’ papers during the seminar.
Mode of Study 2: Students take the written exam, which is based on independent study. The written examination can be taken in Finnish or in English through the e-platform.
E-platform:
The course has two different e-platforms: one for the Mode of Study 1 and one for the Mode of Study 2. In case you register to the course, the link and the key to the platform will be sent by email after the registration period has ended.
