Professor Sari Havu-Nuutinen appointed to the Fulbright Finland Foundation Board of Directors

Professor Sari Havu-Nuutinen has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the Fulbright Finland Foundation. The foundation’s mission is to support the internationalisation of Finnish higher education institutions and to promote Finnish-American collaboration in education and research.

The Board of Directors governs the foundation’s activities and brings a wealth of expertise from different fields. Board members take part in the foundation’s strategic oversight and support its mission to promote the exchange of knowledge, expertise and professional collaboration between Finland and the United States. Finnish members of the Board of Directors of the Fulbright Finland Foundation are appointed by the Ministry of Education and Culture, and their term lasts four years.

Collaboration spanning several years

Through her appointment to the Board of Directors, Sari Havu-Nuutinen aims to strengthen and further develop mobility schemes in the field of education and to support exchange programmes for doctoral researchers where educational sciences are also represented. Havu-Nuutinen is well acquainted with the foundation’s teacher exchange programmes and the extensive experience gained through them provides a strong foundation for her work on the Board.

Havu-Nuutinen was awarded a Fulbright Senior Research Grant for 2014–2015, and she has also frequently served as a mentor to American visitors arriving in Finland through the Fulbright programme. In addition, she has hosted Fulbright visitors in Joensuu.

Although several years have passed since Havu-Nuutinen’s own Fulbright period, the collaboration with American colleagues that began during her year in the United States continues to bear fruit. One outcome of this collaboration is a soon-to-be-published book.

“I am also looking forward to gaining a deeper understanding of the foundation’s work through my role on the Board and, at the same time, to further deepen collaboration between the University of Eastern Finland and the Fulbright Finland Foundation.”
