UEF continues to support Ukrainian students in Finland by offering separate study rights free of charge

The University of Eastern Finland continues to support Ukrainian students during the academic year 2022–2023 by offering admission to non-degree studies to persons who have arrived in Finland from Ukraine.

Ukrainian degree students are eligible to apply for admission to UEF under a separate right to study, and they are not expected to pay for tuition. Applications are open for students who have an existing, valid right to study at a Ukrainian university and who have applied for or been granted temporary protection by the Finnish Immigration Service.

“This offer is a direct response to inquiries we have received locally. There are students who have arrived and are arriving in our campus cities in Joensuu and Kuopio and would like to continue their academic studies in Finland. We are ready to assist these students in pursuing their academic goals and will help them to plan their future,” the University of Eastern Finland’s Academic Rector Tapio Määttä says.

Applications from Ukrainian students for admission to the University of Eastern Finland are accepted from 1 August 2022 onwards throughout the academic year, and applications can be submitted via the Studyinfo portal. The non-degree study right entitles students to complete individual courses or study modules, e.g., minors offered in English at the University of Eastern Finland. Finnish language courses will also be available. Applicants are encouraged to get familiar with the study fields UEF has to offer before applying, as the study rights will be granted based on the compatibility of the applicant’s earlier studies with those offered by the University of Eastern Finland. Good English language skills are also required.

Students admitted to the university may start their studies from the beginning of September, and their study right will be valid until 31 July 2023. Studies will be offered on the Joensuu and Kuopio campuses of the university. Studies completed under the separate study right are free of charge.

Ukrainian students who have been granted a separate study right will, later on, have the opportunity to apply for admission to the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes of the University of Eastern Finland, provided that they meet the eligibility and admissions criteria.
