UNITE researchers awarded at the IUFRO World Congress

Doctoral Researcher Heli Kymäläinen was recognised by the Best Poster Award (BPA) at the IUFRO World Congress.

UNITE Flagship researchers were strongly present at the IUFRO World Congress in Stockholm with the theme Forests & Society Towards 2050. Besides presenting the latest advances in innovative technologies and gamified approaches, two of them were honoured with awards.

Professor Liisa Tyrväinen (Natural Resources Institute Finland, Luke) was honoured by the IUFRO World Congress Host Scientific Award for her outstanding research in nature-based tourism and recreation. In UNITE Flagship, professor Tyrväinen contribute especially to the research relating to gameful forest interaction for meaningful experiences and practices.

Doctoral Researcher Heli Kymäläinen (University of Eastern Finland) was recognised by the Best Poster Award (BPA). Her poster Optimizing Support Systems for Cut-To-Length Machine Operators – Current Use and Future Visions was judged as both scientifically and visually distinguished and encouraging public dissemination of high-quality research. In UNITE Flagship, Kymäläinen finalizes her thesis relating to research-based systems to support decision-making in forestry.

IUFRO (International Union of Forest Research Organizations) is a non-profit, non-governmental international network of forest scientists, promoting global cooperation in forest-related research and enhances the understanding of the ecological, economic and social aspects of forests and trees.

UNITE Flagship researches and develops the forest-human-machine interplay. The UNITE competence center has research groups from the University of Eastern Finland, the Finnish Geospatial Research Institute at the National Land Survey of Finland, the University of Tampere and the Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke), as well as an extensive network of co-creation partners. It is funded by the Research Council of Finland.
