The International Federation for Home Economics (IFHE) European Conference will be held at the University of Eastern Finland in Joensuu, on 5–6 October 2026. The theme of the conference is Rethink and Reorganise – Home Economics bringing preparedness and resilience to everyday life.
The thematic conference’s focus is on the vital role of Home Economics in fostering preparedness and resilience in daily life. The conference aims to highlight innovative solutions, sustainable practices and educational strategies that equip individuals, households, and communities to thrive in changing circumstances.
In her keynote speech, Professor Ming Cui (Florida State University) will draw on theoretical and empirical research to examine the features of emerging adults in the current society, their preparedness for the transition to adulthood, and the roles of families and communities in supporting a successful transition to independent and responsible adulthood. In the second keynote presentation, Professor Donna Pendergast AM (Griffith University) will explore the capacity of Home Economics to cultivate sustainable, resilient, and socially responsible communities through a futures-oriented, critical, and human-centred pedagogical lens.
We warmly invite all those interested in the theme, across disciplinary boundaries, to participate in the conference. See updating information on the IFHE conference programme here.
The programme on Monday begins by Opening Ceremony in the Carelia building lobby. The first keynote speech will begin at 9.30 in the Agora Building, room AG106.
