The Joensuu Campus is compact, easy to access and accessible. The campus is located right by the city centre. Most of the campus buildings are located along Yliopistonkatu.
The campus is home to more than 9,000 degree students, so be prepared for a lively atmosphere and corridors filled with happy chatter. Many cafeterias and campus restaurants offer lunch and snacks.
Joensuu Science Park hosts some of the university's teaching facilities, and it is a natural platform for science, technology and business to meet. The Teacher Training School is also located on campus.
Arriving and parking
Joensuu can be easily reached by air via Helsinki and there are several train and coach connections per day from Helsinki, Tampere and Turku, as well as from many other cities in Finland.
Joensuu is located along the national road 6. Joensuu airport is located in Liperi, 11 kilometres from the Joensuu city centre. The main campus of university is located two kilometres from the Joensuu railway station.
Joensuu Campus is compact, and it is easy to walk and cycle between campus buildings.

Parking
Pay parking is in force 1.1.–31.12 on weekdays Mon–Fri between 6 am to 6 pm and on Saturdays between 8 am to 4 pm. Pay parking does not concern maintenance parking and disabled parking.
Short-term parking costs 2 euros/hour (+ the operator’s service fee). Short-term parking can be paid at the payment machine or as a mobile payment. Please note parking is not allowed in the parking spaces with electricity during 1.11.-31.3. Staff and students can get a parking permit via an eParking.fi online system.

There are traffic signs in the parking areas to provide further parking instructions. Parking control on both university campuses is carried out by the city.

Accommodation and guest apartments
You can find several options for accommodation in Joensuu area and city centre. Please read more about accommodation options from Visit Karelia website.
The university offers for rent eight guest apartments in Joensuu. The guest apartments are primarily intended for foreign visitors (UEF), part-time teachers and domestic researchers. If guest apartments are available, they may also be rented by postgraduate or continuing education students. City of Joensuu
Joensuu is the capital of North Karelia. The city has a population of 76,500. Nearly a quarter of the population is between the ages of 16 and 29, and the university’s campus brings together more than 9,000 students.
Joensuu is a place where a peaceful environment meets a rich offering of culture and hobby opportunities. In July, during the Ilosaarirock Rock Festival, the city in full of tens of thousands of festival-goers, and the Rokumentti Film Festival will bring a boost to the autumn. Town also offers great theatre and music events throughout the year.
City is also referred to as the Forestry Capital of Europe. The beautiful scenery and the unspoilt lakes and rivers offer almost endless possibilities for sports and recreation. Indeed, Joensuu is home to approximately one hundred different sports clubs. Koli National Park, located near City of Joensuu, offers memorable national landscapes and hiking trails.
