The Kuopio Campus is located in beautiful surroundings, right by a lake. The area where the campus is located, Savilahti, is under constant development. The city is planning on turning Savilahti into an area filled with opportunities for studying, working and living.
The Kuopio Campus is home to nearly 7,000 degree students. The campus also boasts a diverse selection of restaurants and cafeterias, making sure that there are plenty of alternatives to choose from.
Kuopio University Hospital is located right next to the campus area. Also Kuopio Science Park is located in the vicinity of the campus, creating a natural platform for science, research and business to meet.
Arriving and parking
Kuopio can be easily reached by air via Helsinki and there are several train and coach connections per day from Helsinki, Tampere and Turku, as well as from other cities in Finland.
City of Kuopio is located along the national road 6. Kuopio airport is located in Rissala, about 14 kilometres from the city centre. From Kuopio bus station and railway station is about two kilometres to the Kuopio Campus. Main campus buildings are located at Yliopistonranta address.
It is easy to walk between campus buildings. You can also move between the campus and the city centre from spring to autumn on electric city bikes.

Parking
Pay parking is in force 1.1.–31.12 on weekdays Mon–Fri between 6 am to 6 pm and on Saturdays between 8 am to 4 pm. At other times, parking on the university campuses is free of charge. Pay parking does not concern maintenance parking and disabled parking.
Short-term parking costs 2 euros/hour (+ the operator’s service fee). Short-term parking can be paid at the payment machine or as a mobile payment. Please note parking is not allowed in the parking spaces with electricity during 1.11.–31.3. Staff and students can get a parking permit via an eParking.fi online system.

There are traffic signs in the parking areas to provide further parking instructions. Parking control on both university campuses is carried out by the city.

Accommodation, university guest rooms and apartment

The university offers for rent guest rooms and apartment at the Kuopio Campus. There are nine guest rooms located in the Canthia and Snellmania campus buildings, and one guest apartment (two-room apartment) in Puijonlaakso. The guest rooms and apartment are primarily intended for foreign visitors (UEF), part-time teachers and domestic researchers. If guest rooms and apartment are available, they may also be rented by postgraduate or continuing education students. City of Kuopio
Kuopio is the capital city of Northern Savonia region. The city has a population of 119,400. The city is well-known for its Puijo tower and lively market square, as well as fine sports landscapes, a wide range of culture and the beautiful shore of Kallavesi lake.
Kuopio is an attractive place to live for both exercise enthusiasts and cultural enthusiasts. The city has numerous running paths and skiing tracks. Tahko region offers various summer and winter sports opportunities. In winter, during the Finnish Ice Marathon skating event, a skating rink is open to everyone on the ice of Kallavesi lake.
Kuopio also has a lot to offer in culture and arts: the city has a wide range of theatre, music and museums. City also known of the Kuopio Dance Festival and the Kuopio Rock Festival.
