Professor Tarja Malm has been awarded an ERC Proof of Concept Grant for the WAVEAD project focusing on the development of novel methods for measuring the electrical activity of the brain.

The Research Council of Finland’s Scientific Council for Biosciences, Health and the Environment has granted 6.6 million euros of funding to five new Academy Research Fellows, one Clinical Researcher and seven new Academy Projects.

“One absolutely can change their research topic after the PhD. Indeed, it is essential to adopt new perspectives and methods during the post-doc phase,” said Professor Christian Haass, speaking at the Neuroscience Research Community’s spring seminar in Kuopio.

Nine Academy Projects and four Academy Research Fellows secured funding.

This year, the event will focus on drug and vaccine development, health data and health technology solutions. There will also be a Pitch & Match session for investors and start-ups.

The results revealed that ultrafine particles cause substantial alterations in cellular functions involving cellular energy metabolism, olfactory signalling, and epithelial permeability.

Grants were awarded for PhD researchers and postdoctoral researchers for a research period abroad.

A hands-on course held in Kuopio introduced students and researchers to the fundamental principles of electrophysiology, with a particular focus on applications involving human cells and tissues.
