Raija Elsinen invited to become an honorary member of the European Confederation of Language Centres in Higher Education

The former and long-standing Director of the Language Centre of the University of Eastern Finland, Raija Elsinen, PhD, has been invited to become an honorary member of the European Confederation of Language Centres in Higher Education, CercleS. CercleS seeks to support language centres in European establishments of higher education, to promote research in foreign language learning at international level, and to encourage international and interdisciplinary cooperation between language centres.

Elsinen served on the Executive Committee of CercleS for a total of eight years, including four full terms Vice-President. She also played an important role in the inclusion of the Finnish Network of University Language Centres, FINELC, in CercleS.

This year, CercleS is celebrating its 30th anniversary, and the first ever honorary members will be officially announced at the XVII CercleS International Conference, “The Future of Language Education in an Increasingly Digital World: Embracing Change”, to be held in Porto, Portugal, on 15–17 September 2022. In addition to Elsinen, also Professor David Little and Isabelle Stefanutti have been invited as the first ever honorary members of CercleS.
