The doctoral conferment ceremony of the University of Eastern Finland culminated in the ceremonial conferment of degrees in Joensuu today. A total of 82 doctorates were conferred, 13 of which were honorary doctorates conferred upon persons chosen by the university’s faculties.
Basic science talks on early inflammatory activation in neurodevelopmental disorders were accompanied by perspectives from autistic people, educational professionals, and clinicians.
The festivities started with the Rector’s reception, followed by an event aimed at the honorary doctors in the Conferment Park, where the honorary doctors’ commemorative plaques were attached on logs of deadwood.
The Board of the University of Eastern Finland has elected the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, MD Jussi Pihlajamäki, as the Vice Rector for Research.
The European Commission has presented a Master Course Award to the Erasmus+ Mundus Joint Master’s Degree Programme in Clinical Linguistics, EMCL, conducted at the University of Eastern Finland.
Professor Jussi Kukkonen and Professor Jussi Pihlajamäki will continue to the next phase of the recruitment process of Vice Rector for Research. As regards the post of Vice Rector for Education, Professor Markku Hauta-Kasari, Professor Laura Hirsto and Professor Marja Laasonen will continue in the recruitment process.
